Weekend!!!

I can't believe were already done with the fourth week of class. I found Tuesdaysclass very helpful, Kate is right when she said we all try to be "nice" to each other when writing our essays, but the honesty is what helps. Luckily, I got a parter who was pretty critical but brought up some very valid points I hadn't thought of. I'm excited about our next essay, I've been thinking of what to write about, I think I'm gonna take Kate's advice and flip through my favorite magizines. Hope you ladies all have a great weekend! See you girls Tuesday!

These weeks are flying by and i'm pretty happy about that! The narrative essay wasn't to bad i couldn't figure out anything to write about when it came to food or social networking though luckily i got to write about my move to Gainesville instead. I'm not looking forward to this next essay. The only good thing is that everyone gets to pick pretty much their own topic and what they want to compare and contrast and what not. The peer review is a good way for us to help each other out, i just didn't know we had to answer the questions until the very end of class i thought it was just editing things we noticed were wrong. I do think it will be hard changing up the essay so much like we were told today because the kids we looked at went from boring to really good and i don't know if thats going to be easy to change it up so much.

Week Four

This week has been a bit different form my previous weeks. I haven't got much rest at all, assignments are elevating, and there isn't enough hours in the day or week. (I know that's so cliché, but that's what this week makes me feel like). My fan-base for objective writing has never been popular. Hearing that there was another essay assignment wasn't exciting news until I thought about what good could come from it; the essay kind of gives me a chance to exercise some new techniques. I see it as an opportunity to make an improvement in my writing or as a chance to show how much improvement I need with writing. I suppose I'll see, but of course, my best efforts will be put forth. I also can't help but to continuously question myself about peer reviews, because I'm not a strong writer I don't see how well I could review someone’s paper. Maybe I will feel different further in the semester (only time will tell).

WOW week FOUR :)

So far this class to me was a little ROCKY.. (trying to fuguee out everything) but the good news is I think I have it. And I have made some friends.. :) I really liked writing the Narrative essay. I thought it was a good first writing. It took me A WHILE to figures out what to write about because i was really clueless, but after talking to Kate and thinking I founded something :). All tho looking at the next writing I think it looks a tad bit harder (as expected). This first four weeks so far have been good, I think so far it has been cool and exciting we have learned in many different ways. I really like the fact she lets us do the peer review. It helped to know what someone else is thinking about your paper and where you need to change something.. As well as a fun way to learn. The only thing
I am still needing to learn is to be organized! (something i am not good at.) And I think with this class we have to be organized.

Alrighty then... The Modern Hunter Gatherer. The "MHG" has been this weeks focus in class and it flexed my thinking a bit. I hadn't really thought about hunting to that extent before... wow; my past discussions about hunting never went into extent detail. The most that was said about the hunted was "hmm sure will taste good...fresh cut", which meant that (the hunter could see the end in the beginning) the end piece was the most important part. On the other side of opinion there lies concern for some hunted animals, I can't say that I wasn't a little worried for my furry "friends" when I first talked about hunting. I could picture how things would look as the hunter went in for the kill and then I'd picture how sad my "friend"would look. Can't say that I ever felt a real connection between game and livestock though. It seems that most people have the mentality that killing livestock is alright (cause it whats for dinner on the norm.), but hunting game is askew. I don't fully understand that point but then again hunting (nor farming) is my forte.

"The Modern Hunter-Gatherer" had a lot going on in it. The writer was very descriptive with they way he wrote, and was always questioning himself about things that he did and things that were going on. I felt this was a little long as well for this story, i felt like there was a lot of things that were getting repeated also. But i think the meaning behind the whole thing was good and after reading it, it was an alright essay, just not sure if i could ever write like that! It was weird how he kept comparing the pig to humans, like when he said it weighed exactly as much as him as if he felt bad because that's like a human hanging from that tree, that could be him that someone is cutting open cleaning so it can be eaten. The after the kill he didn't really want to eat it anymore but then felt like it was his responsibility to eat it since he already killed it he can't just not eat it and have killed the pig for no reason at all.

The Flu SUCKS!!!!

Hey Girls,
I can't make it to class today. Could you all please in as much detail as possible let me know about the discussion in class and anything I need to do this weekend. I'll copy someones notes on Tuesday if thats ok. Thanks Girls!

Do you hunt your food?

I did not like the article "The Modern Hunter-Gatherer". I can very well see the author's point of view but I did not feel like it was nessecery to take 12 pages to say the same thing over and over. I am still confused on where the author stands about hunting? I think he has a respect for it, but will he ever hunt again? I guess I'm waiting for class on Thursday, maybe some points will be brought up that I havn't realised.

Are you a hunter?

I really thought this "Modern Hunter-Gatherer" reading we did was going to be more about how people hunt and why they hunt, and what they hunt all that kinda stuff. But it was totally the opposite of what I thought. It was more of what it really meant to them to be a hunter. Why the kill is so important, why the size mattered. Growing up we have raised our pigs and cows and have eaten them and I have NEVER thought that back in the day and even now some people only grow their own food. To me, I am glade there is a Wal-mart 20 mins away. And i dont have to grow everything!

Sleeping on some things

So this week has made me notice how much I have been slipping on a few things... I made some mistakes this week that cannot follow my this semester. However I did learn a few pointers from the reading in class. The essay "Faceless on Facebook" was something else for me to read. I was amazed that the author thought enough about facebook to write about each step in the process. I never thought anybody had time for that..it seems a little pointless to me but I guess it's to "each-es own."

Just a reminder girls!

Remember not only do you have to post something every week, you also have to comment or respond on someone elses post!

So I’m pretty confused on how to use this blog thing but hopefully I’ll get used to it. I really have trouble being on time to pretty much anywhere I go and I really hope that does become a problem with this REALLY early class I have decided to take. The whole comp class is pretty confusing to me also. Last semester I got used to using angel and angel only and now I have to try to figure out this whole comp class thing now. I can’t ever figure out what is for homework and what we are going to be doing in class. I’m just really hoping to keep up and do well in here and not slack off and remember to post on here weekly because I have bad memory and can’t ever remember things I’m suppose to do which is pretty bad. This class seems like it will be pretty interesting so I’m looking forward to it.

So this is just the second week in the class and I am still very confused, but I know it is just the start, and I will get used to it. And this BLOG... You honestly do not understand computers and me do NOT get along! Therefore it will take A LOT of work for me to understand this. :( So i have read "band blog" over and over and I think I have the idea but I am still not sure about writing them and finding pictures to go along with the post... Got a lot of work ahead of us.. (But it will be fun!) I think by the end of this semester I am going to LOVE computers if you know what I mean. And I will know EVERYTHING about them! And with me not liking computers it sounds like i will love them by the end. So far my band seems like a lot of fun and I am so excited to be working with the girls of "GO WITH THE FLOW" I think this is going to be a great semester!

Nike, You Really are a RAT!

Whoa, let me say that Jonah Peretti and Nike both have some nerve. First of all, I've always worn Nike's and found them comfortable, but after reading this article I will think hard before buying another pair of Nike's. I think when Jonah actually changed his request is should have stated "Thank you Vietnamese people for making my shoes and going through verbal and physical abuse for me to recieve them" Get a grip Nike, treat your employees better.
