UGH! my Internet went down making this draft two of my post...guess that's technology for me.

Ethos, pathos, and logos aye. I wasn't expecting to ever add those terms to my vocabulary. In the class discussion I tried to better understand them, but of course I will be taking more notes in the next discussion. I also liked the Amendment One reading, it was interesting to me. When I first looked at the article it didn't strike me as being too interesting to me. I liked the logos appeal the most because it made me think of individual and public rights...all-in-all the reading wasn't bad. The reading also brought me back to what I used to be interested in, which is how people feel and how they are treated. Taking notes on the discussion is supposed to help me on the paper, but I really hope for more details in the next discussion.

So i couldn't make it to class today, i woke up on time then just had an incredibly sore throat that was not making me feel to well, i couldn't even get out of bed. If anyone can let me know what we did and what we covered in class today would really help. I was kind of surprised when class was canceled Tuesday after driving all the way there then having an hour and a half until my next class so i finally go to eat breakfast, went to Ihop and it just so happen to be free pancake day which was pretty cool. I read The Female Fear Factor and i never really realized that news and stuff really do have a way of scaring not only women but everyone in to thinking something is bad so people just try to avoid all these things that are "bad." I read the amendments last night expecting to be in class today and i thought it was strange to be reading about the amendments in an English class, seems to be more of something to be covered in a political or history class.

Okay so the reading from the book was very interesting to me, “the female fear factor” I thought it was kind of crazy how woman defiantly listen to something, on the TV, news, or by word of mouth. The fact that woman will follow what the media people will say, I think to a degree men also do this. Especially if it is for hunting, fishing, or something they want. On the other side it was a nice break to have this Tuesday off, although I did not like driving almost 45 minute to get to an 8 o’clock class, and especially because I could of used the extra sleep today, it was a great time to relax, and catch up on some other homework, as well as the lovely facebook. Now I bet class will be packed on Thursday.  Well better go read the Thursday homework, yall girls have a great week!

So the peer reviews helped that we did on Tuesday i liked not having to go to class Thursday because i got to sleep in for once since i've been really busy this week with essays and projects for my minimester class ending this week. I finally found my new ad to compare with my first one and it made the assignment seem much easier. I thought the essay would be much easier then it was but once i started writing it i found it to be much more difficult. I found so many similarities but i couldn't find many differences so i guess i need to look more into the ads then i was since its two companies selling the same thing i just thought they are just using the same tactics to sell their products but i know there has to be more differences that i haven't noticed. I hope i can make more changed to my rough draft for my final draft as well since on the first essay i didn't make enough changes to it.

Questions ANSWERED!

Well class today was great! It was nice to only have about 5 people in the class. The one on one with Kate was great, I was really LOST with my add essay :( and at one point upset because I felt like I could not get any words on the paper, or to get the words to make any since. When we got to class today it was good to hear that the other 4 people could not get the words requirement. (Made me feel better). I hope yall are doing good with your essay because I am having a hard time. After talking to Kate she told me a few point to think about and I think I will have a better time with the final paper. Seeing this essay I am really hoping the next essay we do is not this hard. (Hopefully not)

Week in Review

We had a pretty busy week in class. The adbusters assignment helped greatly with helping me understand how much you can pull from an ad. Still I dont think just 1 certain person is right when they say what they see in the ad. I think it's ok to have different perspectives about what we see in the ad, there is no right or wrong. I didn't like the reading for class this week. Just reading it at home and in my free time, I didnt understand the purpose of the article. After we dicussed it in class I did understand it more. I think they author could have chosen a better title because I think we all got the wrong impression before reading the article. It was clever of the author to use Tiger Woods have a reference and say that he sums up America's past decade of events.

On to another subject, Over the past week I have became aware of some medical problems that require me to have surgery on Tuesday. Ladies keep me in your thoughts. I am very nervous, this all happened so fast and very unexpected. I'm still trying to figure all this out for myself...it's very scary!

This Week:

The essay we are about to write is making me a little nervous, I'm not good with writing assignments. I didn't think we would be writing about ads. The interesting thing to me is that we have to closely look at each object in the ad and point out very specific details about them, thats okay. The actual writing is going to be a struggle for me though. I didn't understand the T. Woods reading until todays class discussion, but I have to look it over again for a little more self-clarity. Without Kate's help at pointing out all the extras in the reading I would have still been lost, of course. My perception changed a little bit about the decades influences, now I wonder whats to come next. Seeing as how we will be working on our papers next week things should go a little smoother in my thought process. I hope to do a good job on this paper.

So its getting closer to tuesday when the rough draft is due, and i was thinking it was going to be rather easy to write about two ads, but i don't think it is going to end up being as easy as i thought. I never knew ads could have so much detail and mean so much, after analyzing the ad in class i realized that there is a lot more to ads. The adbusters website was pretty funny too how they were just making fun of all real ads. I didn't really like the tiger woods article either, i was thinking it would be more about him and what he did not someone giving opinion on him and comparing tiger to all these other things that i had no idea what they were. It was boring and hard for me to read but i got through it some how. After talking about it the entire class period it made it a little easier to understand but it was still pretty confusing.

That Add ment WHAT?

i normally do not "read" into an add. last class was the first time i have ever had to think about what the add really meant and what i thought the add meant. i totally got two different reasons for the add. (for the in class and my add) i think it is so cool, after you glance at the add then look "into" the add you can almost feel what the add makers are wanting you to know, and change your mind to the product, although i think differently about smoking, and i have a huge turn off towards smoking i thought it was interesting to look at the add and talk about what i thought the add was about and what other people thought about the add. i know we all had some of the same idea and some different. it is funny how a picture really can say one thousand words. when at a first glance it might be yelling one point and when you look at it for a few minutes you get something different, the wonderful picture has many meaning (and many words depending on how you look at the picture).

Opps i completely forgot there was a blog due over the weekend until now my birthday was friday so i was pretty busy with family and stuff the entire weekend. i know its too late but i guess i should still do one anyways. My ads for our next writing assignment is two of the same smoking ads and how one is much thicker and double sided and how one is thin and single sided. I'm not sure if i'll be switching these or not i think i will be easy to write about these two but then again i might want to try to write about two different ads advertising two different smoking ads. I'm kind of looking forward to doing this, i don't know much about cigarettes but i know that smoking companies really try hard to get their nasty products out there. So i can use what i know from commercials i see to add them to these ads i'm using.

Hey Ladies!!!
I thought I had the perfect idea for my 2 ads. I wanted to compare/contrast how teen magazines vs women magazines promote pregnacy prevention. I'm sure you girls remember reading SEVENTEEN when we were younger and the distinctive pregancy prevention ads they showed each month. I was suprised to find that I could not find a popular teen magazine in bookamillion that advertised pregnancy prevention. On the other hand, COSMO gives advice to women on pregnacy prevention. In my opinion I see something wrong here. America should be foccusing on pregnacy prevention for our teens not grown women.

Got That Feeling

Hey Girls, Hope yalls weekend was good, BTW Jeanita missed ya at class this morning.. Well I am starting to get a better feel of this class, although I am a little worried about this next essay. I found two articles, but to me they sound like they would make a good paper, but I am going to have to ask Kate about it. I am just not so sure..I think as long as you can find something to talk about and find a comparison or a contrast of the two we will be fine. The notes she gave us today I think helped, I am not a strong writer at all so every little bit helps! That is for sure! Besides that, I am starting to like the class, well not the early part. But hey there are PLENTY of parking at that time of the morning. I have also learned that I need to be so much more organized then what I am. Keeping up with these articles are probably going to drive me crazy! Well that is just some thoughts on my mind right now. See yall Thursday..
